Lidingö has been the prime choice for Stockholm's rich and famous for a century thanks to its absolute proximity to the city center in combination with easy access to the ocean, lakes and wonderful nature.
You are by the ocean and play ground in 2 minutes by foot (200 meters). Pristine real forests just minutes away in any of 3 directions! You are in Stockholm city center by train/metro or car in 15-20 minutes, from your door!
The villa is located just by Södra Kungsvägen with great city access both by car and train/bus. Private parking for 5-6 cars. The 30km/h road gives one side of the house a lively feel. Yet on the garden side of the house, you can enjoy private barbecue or sit in privacy and quiet in the summer sun chairs with grapes and 1937 apple and plum trees.
Many details, including the marble staircase and wooden floors, are rare untouched 1937 originals, as cool today as then.
Lidingö
Walk down the street from the house and turn left, and you can enjoy walking past some of Sweden's best residential architecture from different decades, ranging from 1800'ds to present day.
Lidingö is a very safe and homely environment for children and adults alike. Children walk and cycle by themselves around Lidingö, much like in the old days of the world. The playground down the street by the water have planted berry bushes, such as "Vinbär", for the children to eat. Citizens refer to the island as simply "the Island".
A train/bus commutes south Lidingö, with a stop just by the house which takes you to Ropsten station in 10 minutes, from where the subway reach Stockholm central in another 8 minutes (even less to the fine East End, Östermalm). Public transport service runs 24h / 7 days.
On the way from the house towards Stockholm, you conveniently find two large grocery stores.
But the most rare quality, so close to the city, is of course the pristine nature and the water. No-where else around Stockholm has so much nature been preserved. Here you get all the best of what Sweden has to offer.
Golf and other Activities
Nearby you find a wide range of activities, including two golf courses, horse riding clubs, the Royal tennis court, indoor swimming hall, ski tracks, ice skating, and sport clubs for virtually every sport and taste. Just by the house is one of Stockholm's best delicacy shops. Pricy but worth it.
Personal note
We have lived here with our children, and we find the area just unmatchable. The safety and location gives the family a freedom that is hard to offer anywhere else in Sweden, or in any big city nowadays. The contact with the water and nature is priceless. Still Stockholm city just around the corner.

The quiet dead-end street leading from the house down to the water side.
Literally 2 minutes from the house (200 meter) down the street to the water with a playground. This is the main Stockholm inlet, so sit on the bench and watch the ships sailing by. Or take a swim from the bridge before breakfast.
200 meter down to the water and marina.
This photo serves to illustrate that it is a very safe area. Children can cycle around themselves, a rare sight in the big world cities nowadays, also in and around Stockholm. But somehow Lidingö has remained a safe place, a bit like it was in the old days.
